Problem: Food Deserts. In 2009 2.3 million Americans lived over a mile form a supermarket and did not own a car, severely limiting their access to fresh, healthy foods. “Food deserts” have significant impacts on health and contribute to health disparities, specifically in rural communities
Solution: a nonprofit type farmers market that brings food to main community buildings such as churches once a week after services
Hey Megan,
ReplyDeleteI hadn't really thought about this problem before, but it is a real problem that impacts a lot of people. I think your solution is a great idea and would give people who live far away from supermarkets an opportunity to obtain fresh, healthy food. I feel like this is an overlooked problem in America and people have just become satisfied with their lack of healthy food, but your solution could change this notion and give these people more options. Great job!
Hey Lauren, I’m really interested in your problem. The problem of healthy food and a reliable means of getting food is important. What do you consider a long distance? Why couldn’t these people walk to the store? What is the spread of distance that you plan to combat? These questions would really help shape your idea I think. Great post!
